On behalf of the PE Board and all members, we offer our congratulations to Becky Edwins, Gay Evans, Hannah Griffin and Alex Spillett as well as team coach Jeremy Huntley on their success in winning the Nations Cup at the European Women’s Triples in Torrelavega, Spain.
In the five-round Swiss qualification, the team was very unfortunate in not qualifying for the main knockout stages of the Championship. They just missed out on a tie-break by the finest of margins, being placed 17th only on the basis of the sum of wins achieved by the opponents of the teams that England played (fBHN). The team faced tough matches against leading European rivals, defeating Belgium, losing very narrowly against Italy after leading and battling hard against the hosts Spain.
On a couple of occasions in matches against Austria and in the final itself against Estonia, the team dug very deep to turn around a losing position into a 13:7 win. The team displayed resilience and a great will to win as well as strong unity.
Historically, we have much to be proud of in the senior women’s category at both European and World level and this latest result gives us the foundation to make further progress towards a regular top 16 and above placing.
