The biggest petanque weekend of the year

On the weekend of 4-5th September around 700 petanque players will gather at Melton Mowbray Market for our first Inter-Regional event at this great new venue. It’s taken a lot of work to achieve this, which is only made possible thanks to the efforts of the Petanque England Events Group led by Baz Wing. The PE team have worked tirelessly over many months to organise all the logistics and overcome various obstacles to ensure the weekend will be a success. There are 16 regions taking part this year and we look forward to meeting-up with old friends and new.

Regional Team Managers will gather at 08:30 on Saturday, with play starting at 09:30 on both days. The full address is Melton Mowbray Cattle Market, Scalford Road, Melton Mowbray LE13 1JY.

There is plenty of free parking at the site only a few minutes walk away and marshals will guide players to the terrains as they arrive. Spectators are welcome and we hope that local residents will come along to see what the sport of Petanque is all about.

Catering and vendors

There will be a number of food vendors on site selling freshly-prepared sandwiches, burgers, ice-cream, tea & coffee, fish, hog roasts, breakfasts and South Asian food. There will also be food served in the Round Brewery and Pizza Shack, and available in the Tavern pub to eat-in. Please do support our on-site vendors who have kindly agreed to come to support our event. Only alcohol purchased on site will be allowed, so please do not bring your own.

DC Petanque and TOG 24 will have stalls selling petanque equipment and clothing respectively. Please do support these two great companies, who are both also sponsoring the event. There will be a fabulous raffle run by Ray and Ayjay Keemer Richards, with some amazing prizes.

Evening entertainment

A ‘Players Reunion’ will take place on the Saturday from 19:15 in the banqueting suite, followed by a disco courtesy of our own favourite DJ Stone Williams from 20:15 until midnight on the Saturday, The suite has limited capacity so free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, for up to 450 people. The Petanque England presentation ceremony will take place approx 30-60 minutes after the last game finishes on the Sunday, and will be followed by another disco by Stone until 23:00.

The bar will be open until midnight on Saturday and 23:00 on Sunday, so plenty of time for teams to celebrate or commiserate depending on how well they’ve played! Overnight parking is allowed for those who wish to stay for a drink and get a taxi back to their hotel. There will be at least five motorhomes staying in the car park, with space for more if needed.
