CharityClubsStorySun Shines on Norwich Pétanque Club’s “Big C” Open Competition

6th April 2025

Norwich, April 5, 2025 — Glorious spring sunshine and a refreshing breeze provided the perfect backdrop for a fantastic day of pétanque as the Norwich Pétanque Club hosted its annual “Big C” Open Competition yesterday.

A total of 12 pairs took to the piste to compete for the coveted trophy, with players coming from local clubs and beyond. The day saw four tightly contested rounds, and by the end, five teams were tied with three wins each, prompting a tense finish as points difference was needed to determine the final standings.

Coming in as worthy runners-up were Norwich Pétanque Club’s own John Ward and Brian Taylor, who played consistently throughout the day.

The top spot, however, went to Judith Brown and Nigel Sayer of the Bob Carter Centre Pétanque Club, whose strong performances and superior points difference secured them the title.

Beyond the competition, the event carried a deeper purpose — supporting the Big C cancer charity. Thanks to the generosity of players and supporters, the day raised an impressive £218 for the cause.

A big thank you goes out to all who participated and helped make the day such a success, both on and off the piste.
