On the 19th December 2020, the UK Government introduced a new level of COVID-19 restrictions, Tier 4: Stay at Home, which initially covered Greater London and parts of the South East and East of England. This has now been extended to other areas from the 26th December 2020. Find out which tier you are in here.
In Tier 4 areas, it is only permitted to use outdoor pétanque facilities (provided they are open and available for use) as an individual on your own, with members of your household or support bubble, or with one person only from another household. Organised outdoor sport for under 18s and disabled people can continue.
You can travel within a Tier 4 area to play pétanque but government advice is for this to be done locally wherever possible. You should not travel into or out of a Tier 4 area for participation in organised pétanque.
The guidance PE previously issued for Tiers 1-3 remains unchanged and is outlined below.
Pétanque facilities can open across Tiers 1-3. PE is a recognised national governing body by the Government and organised pétanque carried out by PE affiliated clubs, regions and leagues across Tiers 1-3 can take place with any number of participants. This is provided organised activity takes place in line with COVID-secure guidance and follows PE ‘Play Safe Guidelines’ which includes the need to carry out risk assessments and track and trace.
In tiers 1-3 you can travel within your area to pétanque venues and facilities which are open. The government advises against travel into or out of Tier 3 areas, unless this is necessary to enable individual exercise. You should not travel into or out of a Tier 3 area for participation in organised pétanque.

Thank you for your update with reference to Covid 19. Whilst we are still playing under the guide lines as set by PE. We do enjoy a good game of petanque but how long we can continue rather depends if we are tired to grade four. Act the moment we are graded tier three, but for how long, it is a very worrying time for all. Please stay safe and enjoy our sport whilst it is still permissable. Yours with thanks Morris Goodman RPC

Membership is due but I’m not seeing any updates on love admin site or getting any reminders from petanque England. Does this mean we are going to get a free year as we did not get to use our membership this year. Will our printable membership cards on LoveAdmin be valid for 2021 or get updated.

Please can you clarify. It states above that PE guidance for tiers 1-3 remains unchanged. However, the previous guidance – 29th november – states – However, all players resident in Tier 3 should avoid travelling to any other area in the UK (including other Tier 3 areas).
This seems a direct contradiction of the above 5th paragraph? which, for example, seems to say that regions in tier 3 can compete against each other, but which would obviously involve travel between tier 3 areas.
Apologies if I’ve missed something.

Bill,
Not sure I understand? We state in there latest update: “In tiers 1-3 you can travel within your area to pétanque venues and facilities which are open. The government advises against travel into or out of Tier 3 areas, unless this is necessary to enable individual exercise. You should not travel into or out of a Tier 3 area for participation in organised pétanque.”
