We have been contacted by our friends in the Scottish Pétanque Association informing us that regrettably they have decided to cancel this year’s Home Nations Tournament which was due to be held in Troon over the weekend of 8th & 9th of August.
The current lack of certainty around the length of operation of social distancing around the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak plus the likely continued restrictions on gatherings and travel has meant that the SPA has concluded that the arrangements and lead-in preparation will not be workable. They have also taken into account the need to book accommodation in advance by all players from the participating associations of England, Jersey and Wales as well as their own players travelling from elsewhere in Scotland.
The SPA has indicated that they would be delighted to work on the basis that the Home Nations will be hosted in Scotland in 2021.
We’re sure that our players will be disappointed at this news as it is always a popular tournament where we are able to make new friendships and renew old ones. We’d like to wish all the players and officials of our sister federations all the best whilst we navigate towards a happier time when we will be out on the pitch again.
