Our pétanque community is renowned for raising money for charities and this Easter weekend saw three typical examples of fundraising competitions in three different PE regions.
In our Heart of England region, the Stockton Pétanque Club held its annual charity pairs on Saturday 20thApril and this resulted in a £200 donation to the Myton Hospice in memory of PE member Di Scott. In a message to the club, Nicki Scott said, “Thank you for a lovely day and for arranging a perfect sunny day. Most of all thanks for agreeing to donate the total from entry fees and the raffle.”
Meanwhile, also on 20thApril up in our Northern Region, the Bridlington Pétanque Club organised a charity match in support of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, raising over £300. PE member Alan Oxley said, “Super day, good weather, lovely folk and the terrains were top notch!”
Easter Monday saw 23 teams of doubles at the City of Southampton Pétanque Club in our Southern Counties Region. This time, the beneficiary was 4Louis, a UK charity that works across the country to support anyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and the death of a baby or child.
Competition organiser Graham Galton said, “Thank you to everyone who not only played today but also to those who donated money, got raffle tickets, donated raffle prizes, purchased food and cake. It all went towards a grand total raised of £881. Absolutely amazing.”
Well done to everybody involved in organising and supporting these great events. Pétanque people have big hearts. If you have a charity fundraiser planned, let us know and we will help publicise it.
